Jets 2022 NFL Draft odds: Deebo Samuel trade unlikely; New York favored to select Kayvon Thibodeaux over receiver with fourth overall pick

Will Deebo Samuel be traded during the 2022 NFL Draft?

The 49ers say they don't want to trade star receiver Deebo Samuel even though he wants out. If a deal is going to happen, it almost surely will be either ahead of Thursday's first round of the 2022 NFL Draft or during it. The Niners reportedly would demand a king's ransom of two first-round picks for Samuel, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported today that he does not get the sense there is "any movement" on a trade. The Jets own the fourth and 10th overall picks and badly need a wideout. However, they are not favored to take a receiver at No. 4 but instead Oregon pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Samuel amassed 1,770 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns last season in being named an All-Pro for the first time, but what team would give up two first-round picks and then have to pay Samuel $25 million per year? The Raiders didn't give up two firsts for Davante Adams and the Dolphins didn't give up two firsts for Tyreek Hill.

If the Niners were going to deal Samuel, they would want picks in this year's draft because they have a Super Bowl-caliber roster otherwise and their first selection isn't until No. 61 overall – they gave up their 2022 first-rounder in the Trey Lance trade last year.

Rapoport makes logical sense in noting that the timing for a trade is very difficult over the next 24 hours because any deal would require Samuel to pass a physical and get a contract extension before it becomes official. Samuel took to Twitter today to criticize the media speculation that has emerged from his trade request and how people are discussing and speculating "a situation they know nothing about." Yet, he didn't deny or demand a trade in that post.

On the prop for which position the Jets will select with their first pick – it doesn't necessarily have to be No. 4 if they trade back but oddsmakers are assuming it would be that selection – a defensive lineman/edge rusher is a +125 favorite. Two of those are favored to go in the first two picks: Georgia's Travon Walker to Jacksonville at No. 1 and Michigan's Aidan Hutchinson to Detroit at No. 2.

The Jets could have Thibodeaux fall into their laps at No. 4 if Houston passes on him. Caesars Sportsbook offers odds on which player goes fourth overall and Thibodeaux is a +200 favorite. His Over/Under draft position is 4.5.

Gang Green taking an offensive lineman with its first pick is +300 along with a defensive back. Receiver is +350. There isn't a wideout graded among the top four players and the Jets can address the position at No. 10 overall. Ohio State's Garrett Wilson is the -110 favorite to be the first receiver off the board and has an Over/Under position of 9.5. Wilson is +2000 to be the fourth pick.
