Deshaun Watson NFL trade odds: Texans now listening on star quarterback; will Watson be dealt by start of 2021 season?

The Houston Texans are now open to offers on star quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Houston Texans training camp is underway, and star quarterback Deshaun Watson is in attendance even though he doesn't want to be a member of the team any longer. The Texans may not want Watson there, either, as he deals with 22 active lawsuits alleging sexual assault and inappropriate behavior. Watson still wants to be traded and there are multiple reports that Houston now is ready to listen. SportsLine offers NFL odds on Watson's future.

The only reason Watson is at camp is because he would have been fined $50,000 per day for not reporting, although it's surely quite an uncomfortable situation for both parties. Watson's personal QB coach, Quincy Avery, told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Friday that he predicted Watson would be traded by Sunday. Wrong.

Watson, though, has a no-trade clause so he has leverage – one of very few players in the NFL with one – and the Texans reportedly are demanding a combination of five high draft picks and starting-caliber players. No team is giving that up with Watson's legal status up in the air and a possible lengthy suspension coming. He remains under both NFL and police investigations.

The league has not placed Watson on the Commissioner's Exempt List because it has not concluded that a major violation occurred. Watson has not yet been charged with any crimes. The civil cases won't go to trial this year.

Talent-wise, the 25-year-old three-time Pro Bowler is worth a huge trade haul after leading the NFL in passing yards in 2020 and signed to a long-term deal. The Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins have consistently been linked with Watson, but they are more likely to see if their young quarterbacks pan out this year – Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa – before giving up a king's ransom for Watson.

The Dolphins have three first-round picks the next two years, and the Eagles will likely have three next year (depends on how Carson Wentz plays in Indy). Carolina and Denver also are possibilities, although the Broncos have been more linked with Aaron Rodgers – that drama really kicks into gear tomorrow when the Packers report to camp and whether Rodgers shows up.

It's pretty rare for a starting-caliber QB to be traded this close to the season starting barring injury – think Sam Bradford being traded from Philadelphia to Minnesota on the eve of the 2016 season when then-Vikings starting QB Teddy Bridgewater suffered a season-ending injury.
