Cowboys vs. Buccaneers Monday NFL Wild Card odds, trends: Bettors split on spread, big on Dak Prescott to throw interception

The Cowboys visit the Bucs tonight to close out the NFL's Wild Card round and Tampa Bay likely will get back a Pro Bowl player from injury.

Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady is 7-0 in his career against Dallas dating to his Patriots days, but his Buccaneers – a rare team with a losing record in the NFL postseason -- are 2.5-point home underdogs tonight against the Cowboys at BetMGM. Players are split on the spread but confident that Cowboys QB Dak Prescott will throw an interception.

The winner tonight already will be at a massive disadvantage, as they will be operating on a short week when they take on the NFC West champion San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The 49ers have won 11 games in a row and will be on extra rest after playing this past Saturday, when they blew out Seattle.

Could tonight be Brady's final game with the Bucs? Rumors abound that he might head to Las Vegas as a free agent this winter to team up with former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. One offshore book has a prop on the Raiders' Week 1 QB in 2023 and Brady is the +275 favorite if Derek Carr departs (and Carr will all but surely be in a different uniform next season).

Brady has a record seven Super Bowl rings and the Cowboys have five as a franchise. This marks the first-ever postseason matchup between a QB and team with five Super Bowl titles each. Brady has 35 career playoff wins, the same as the Cowboys overall. Dallas only has three postseason wins since Brady entered the league.

This is the first time Brady has been an underdog against Dallas. He has been a playoff underdog four times since 2019 and is 4-0 against the spread in those games. Since 2005, NFL playoff teams that are .500 or worse have gone 8-3 ATS. Teams with losing records like the Bucs are 3-1 ATS.

As of this writing, it's essentially an even 50-50 split on tickets and handle at BetMGM regarding the spread. Tampa Bay on the moneyline at +120 is taking 78% of the bets and 69% of the money. The total has risen from 44.5 to 45.5 with 63% of the bets and 66% of the money on the Over.

Prescott tied for the regular season NFL lead in interceptions with 15, the first QB ever to lead or co-lead while missing at least five games. He had at least one pick in each of his final seven games, with 11 total in that span. A total of 90% of the action is on Prescott Over 0.5 interceptions tonight at -165.

Other popular props: Bucs rookie running back Rachaad White Under 35.5 rushing yards (-110); Brady Over 277.5 passing yards (-110); Cowboys running back Tony Pollard Over 11.5 rush attempts (+105); and fellow running back Ezekiel Elliott to score the game's first touchdown at +800 and an anytime TD at +115. Betters also like Brady Over 0.5 rushing yards (+175). Incidentally, Brady has rushed for 1 or more yards in only six games this season.

The Bucs activated Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen off injured reserve on Monday, which is huge news for Tampa Bay's offensive outlook. Jensen was placed on IR on Sept. 1 after suffering a knee injury on the second day of training camp.
