Colts NFL futures odds, props: Indianapolis loses All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor for season after historic loss

The news continues to get worse for the Indianapolis Colts.

It was a rough weekend for the Indianapolis Colts. As if blowing a 33-0 third-quarter lead and losing 39-36 in overtime at Minnesota on Saturday wasn't bad enough – the biggest blown lead in a loss in NFL history -- they will apparently finish out the season without All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor. The standout tailback injured his ankle in the loss and will miss the remainder of the season, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Indy is currently a 3.5-point home underdog at Caesars Sportsbook for Week 16's Monday night matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers.

That the Colts jumped out to a 33-0 lead was impressive considering Taylor injured his ankle in the opening series and wouldn't return – not getting a single touch. He has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain and there's obviously no reason for Indianapolis to rush Taylor back with the team at 4-9-1 and the playoffs a lost cause. The Colts technically haven't been eliminated yet, but it's all but a formality at this point.

Taylor had a career-best season in 2021. He played all 17 games and finished with an NFL-high 1,811 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. He was the betting favorite at the books at the start of the season to repeat as rushing champion and lead again in rushing TDs, as well as the favorite for NFL Offensive Player of the year after finishing second last season to Rams wideout Cooper Kupp.

Taylor was given over/under season totals of 1,450.5 rushing yards and 13.5 rushing TDs this year but will finish way under on both. The former Wisconsin star has 861 yards and four TDs. Zack Moss, acquired via trade this season from Buffalo, will likely take over as the featured back for the last few games.

Caesars gives the Colts a new win total of 5.5, with the Over a -125 favorite. They are underdogs in Week 16 and probably will be again in Week 17 at the Giants. Expect Indianpolis to be favored in Week 18 against NFL-worst Houston in what probably will be the last game as interim coach for Jeff Saturday and the last game as a member of the team for Matt Ryan. Ryan is now the only quarterback in league history to lose twice when his team led a game by at least 25 points. Ryan's Falcons were up 28-3 in the third quarter of Super Bowl LI vs. New England but lost in OT.

The Raiders' Josh Jacobs currently leads the NFL with 1,495 yards, nearly 200 ahead of the Titans' Derrick Henry. Jacobs is the heavy -480 favorite to win the rushing title.
