Chargers vs. Chiefs Thursday NFL injury report, Week 2 odds: Justin Herbert unbeaten at Arrowhead Stadium but will not have Keenan Allen

The Chargers will be without Pro Bowl receiver Keenan Allen at Kansas City on Thursday night.

It's the NFL regular-season debut of new Thursday night partner Amazon Prime Video tonight, and the streamer got about as good a matchup as possible with Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers visiting the Kansas City Chiefs. KC's Arrowhead Stadium is one of the toughest places to play in the league, but Herbert has yet to lose there. However, he will not have five-time Pro Bowl receiver Keenan Allen to throw to because of an injury. The Chiefs are -4 at Caesars Sportsbook.

Herbert is 2-0 in his career at Arrowhead Stadium (Mahomes missed the 2020 game injured) with a 70% completion rate, 583 yards, seven touchdowns and zero picks. He is looking to become the third Chargers quarterback all-time with at least three wins there, joining Dan Fouts (seven) and Philip Rivers (six).

Not having Allen won't help matters, though. He had four catches for 66 yards in the Week 1 win over the Raiders before leaving with a hamstring injury and has been ruled out for Thursday night. In last year's 30-24 Chargers win in KC, Allen had eight catches for 50 yards and a TD. Allen didn't play in the 2020 victory. In his career against the Chiefs overall, he has 82 receptions for 934 yards and five TDs in 13 games.

Tonight will be the fourth NFL matchup between Herbert and Mahomes, and each of the first three were decided by a game-winning score in the final minute of regulation or in overtime. Both meetings last season had at least 54 points scored, and that's the exact total for tonight. The QBs combined for the league's top two passer ratings in Week 1 with Mahomes at 144.2 (360 yards, five TDs, no picks) and Herbert at 129.4 (279 yards, three TDs, no picks).

In the past 10 years in Thursday Night Football games with totals of 50 or more points, the Under is 23-14-1 (62%). Yet 73% of bets are on the Over at BetMGM. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce Over 76.5 receiving yards is currently the most-bet player prop for TNF, and 97% of bets are on the Over.

The Chargers could also be without one of their big offseason additions in Pro Bowl cornerback J.C. Jackson. He missed the opener with an ankle injury and was limited in practice throughout the week.

The big injury note for Kansas City is that kicker Harrison Butker, certainly one of the NFL's best, will not play because of an ankle injury suffered in the Week 1 win at Arizona. Butker made all five kicks (one FG, four PATs) against the Cardinals, and his career field-goal percentage of 90.2 is No. 2 in league history. The Chiefs signed Matt Ammendola to the practice squad earlier this week, and he will likely be elevated on Thursday. Ammendola was 13-for-19 on field goals and 14-for-15 on extra points last year in 11 games with the Jets.

The Chiefs are looking to begin 2-0 for the fifth time in the past six years, while the Chargers are trying to win their first two games of a season for the first time since 2012.
