After historic game, Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase now favored over Patriots' Mac Jones on 2021 NFL Offensive Rookie of Year odds

There's a new favorite to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Last week, we wrote that Cincinnati receiver Ja'Marr Chase still had a shot to catch New England quarterback Mac Jones for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award but that Chase had to have a monster final two games to do it. Well, we were wrong. It only took Chase one monster game to become the new -225 favorite for the award with Jones at +175.

Entering Week 17, Jones was the -475 favorite and Chase +350, but then Chase went out and destroyed the Kansas City Chiefs with 11 catches for 266 yards and three touchdowns. The yardage broke the NFL single-game rookie record previously held by Jerry Butler with 255 on Sept. 23, 1979.

Chase, who also had 201 receiving yards in Week 7, is the first rookie ever and the fifth player in the Super Bowl era to record multiple games with at least 200 receiving yards in a single season, joining Calvin Johnson (2011 & 2012), Don Maynard (1968), Josh Gordon (2013) and Alshon Jeffery (2013).

Finally, the 1,429 yards receiving (No. 4 in the NFL) by the No. 5 overall pick out of LSU have broken the NFL single-season rookie record of 1,400 set by Minnesota's Justin Jefferson last year. Chase has 79 catches overall and 13 TDs (second in league). Of course, Chase and Jefferson both played with Joe Burrow at LSU.

Cincinnati has clinched the AFC North and visits Cleveland on Sunday. The Bengals might opt to rest starters because it's very unlikely they get the top seed in the AFC even with a win.

New England has clinched a playoff berth and mathematically could still win the AFC East and even earn the top seed in the conference but there's essentially no chance of either so it's worth wondering whether Bill Belichick plays his starters Sunday in Miami, which has nothing to play for.

In Sunday's 50-10 win over Jacksonville, Jones threw for 227 yards and three scores with no turnovers. Jones now has nine games with a completion percentage of 70-or-higher, tied with Dak Prescott (nine games in 2016) for the most such games by a rookie quarterback all-time.
