2022 NFL rushing yardage leader odds: Raiders' Josh Jacobs, once huge long shot, is new betting favorite but may miss Week 13

There's a new betting favorite to lead the NFL in rushing yards this season: the Raiders' Josh Jacobs.

Back in late April, the Las Vegas Raiders declined the fifth-year option on the rookie contract of running back Josh Jacobs, and it was believed that the new coaching staff might phase Jacobs out as he seemed to not be part of the team's long-term future with that decision. Well, Jacobs is making himself some money with free agency on tap. Once a +4000 long shot to win the 2022 NFL rushing title, he's first with 1,159 yards and is now the +150 betting favorite at DraftKings – but might not play this week.

Jacobs had the game of his career in Sunday's 40-34 overtime victory at Seattle. He set a Raiders record with 303 scrimmage yards (229 rushing, 74 receiving) and two rushing touchdowns, including the game-winning 86-yard touchdown run in overtime.

That 86-yard TD was the second-longest overtime rushing touchdown in league history and fourth-longest overtime scrimmage touchdown since 1974, trailing only a 99-yard touchdown pass from Ron Jaworski to Mike Quick (November 10, 1985), a 96-yard touchdown run by Garrison Hearst (September 6, 1998) and an 87-yard touchdown pass from Teddy Bridgewater to Jarius Wright. Jacobs also became the sixth player ever with at least 300 scrimmage yards and multiple scrimmage touchdowns in the same game. No one had done it since Adrian Peterson on Nov. 4, 2007.

With six games remaining, Jacobs has the fifth-highest rushing total in franchise history, trailing Marcus Allen (1,759 in 1985), Napoleon Kaufman (1,294 in 1997), Mark van Eeghen (1,273 in 1977) and Allen (1,168 in 1984).

It's no sure thing that Jacobs plays this Sunday vs. the Los Angeles Chargers as he wasn't even sure he'd play Sunday against Seattle until about two hours before kickoff. Jacobs had to test the left calf that he tweaked in a non-contact drill in Friday practice. He then aggravated it late in regulation, but it seemingly didn't affect him too much in OT. At a minimum, Jacobs will practice very little this week. The Chargers have one of the NFL's worst run defenses in allowing 151.4 yards per game.

Derrick Henry (1,048 yards) and Nick Chubb (1,039) are both +275 to lead the league in rushing.
