2022 NFL receiving yardage leader odds: Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase surely out of the running with 4-6 week injury

Terrible news for the Cincinnati Bengals regarding star wideout Ja'Marr Chase.

Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase, the 2021 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, is off to a historic start to his career and was a +1000 fifth favorite at Caesars Sportsbook to lead the league in receiving yards this year. That's likely not happening with the news Thursday that Chase is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a hip injury that seemed to somewhat come out of nowhere. Cincinnati was -3.5 for Monday night's game in Cleveland but is now -3.

Chase didn't practice on Thursday with the hip issue but was called "day-to-day" by Coach Zac Taylor, only for Adam Schefter to break the injury news later in the day. The Athletic's Paul Dehner reported that Chase is dealing with a hip flexor strain that is not expected to require surgery at this time, but Chase could land on injured reserve, which would mean a minimum of four games on the sidelines. Chase first experienced the issue in the team's Week 6 win over the New Orleans Saints. He was on the Bengals' injury report all last week as a limited participant.

The former LSU star is coming off a big Week 7 game in a win over Atlanta, catching eight passes for 130 yards and two scores – his second game in a row with at least 130 yards and two touchdowns. On the season, he has 47 catches for 605 yards (sixth in the league) and six TDs.

Burrow and Chase have connected on 11 touchdowns of at least 30 yards in their 23 NFL games together, tied for the fourth-most such TDs by a quarterback and wide receiver duo each under the age of 26 in NFL history. The record is 13 by Daunte Culpepper and Randy Moss with the Vikings.

Since entering the league as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 draft, Chase ranks fourth among all players with 2,060 receiving yards and second with 19 touchdown receptions. On Monday, he had a chance to join Odell Beckham Jr. as the only players in the Super Bowl era with at least 2,000 receiving yards and 20 touchdown receptions in their first 25 career games. That will now have to wait.

One small bright spot is that Cincinnati hasn't had its bye week yet. The Bengals are off in Week 10. Chase played in all 17 regular-season games as a rookie.
