This being a road game for the 49ers is likely the only thing keeping the spread under double digits. Expecting Jarrett Stidham to do basically anything against this San Francisco defense is a tall task to say the least. The 49ers have covered four straight with Brock Purdy under center and are on streaks of 8-2 and 20-7 ATS. The Raiders have their top offensive and defensive players out, and there's been no indication this is a prideful Las Vegas bunch ready to get Josh McDaniels' back in a tough spot. Large spreads are not easy to stomach, but we could very well see defensive scores in this one. It could be over at halftime if the 49ers play up to their normal level defensively.
The 49ers have covered six straight games, five of those wins coming by double digits. They've allowed 97 points during their current eight-game win streak. While the Raiders are playing out the string and taking a look at QB Jarrett Stidham, the 49ers still have an outside shot at the NFC's top seed. Las Vegas just put its leading tackler, linebacker Denzel Perryman, and its second-best pass rusher, Chandler Jones, on IR. Look for the NFL's top defense -- San Fran allows a league-low 3.3 yards per carry -- to frustrate Josh Jacobs and notch another double-digit win.
Man, I feel sorry for Derek Carr, who was benched on Wednesday. But he didn't put up the wins, and that's what it takes. Sure, Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow missed most of the regular season, and the defense went through some changes. Also, the secondary never materialized. Home field isn't an edge for Las Vegas anymore as visiting teams have taken over Allegiant Stadium, and 49ers fans may travel better than any fan base in the NFL. At some point the Raiders management has to take responsibility. Jarrett Stidham? To me that's a sign the team is raising the white flag. 49ers win and cover.
