It’s difficult enough to play the Steelers. Doing so in Pittsburgh as a quarterback in his first action of the season is particularly rough. The Jets present an opportunity for the Steelers to finally move the ball offensively, and if Pittsburgh is willing to use Jaylen Warren to spell Najee Harris more frequently, it could be a breakout effort for the running game. Mike Tomlin also had extra time to prepare, and I do prefer to side with the Steelers in potentially ugly football games with a spread sitting around or inside a field goal. Pittsburgh should be favored by 4.5-5 in this game.
The Steelers defense hasn't looked great since losing T.J. Watt, but they get a boost in this matchup by facing a QB in Zach Wilson seeing his first action of the season. Remember how rusty many QBs looked in Week 1, especially those that didn't play in the preseason? That's what we should expect from Wilson here. The Steelers offense has to be better on third down, but that's a place where the Jets defense has struggled this year. With Pittsburgh coming off a minibye after playing last Thursday, this line feels like it should be at least 3.5, so I think laying three makes sense even if you have to pay -120 to do it.
Jets QB Zach Wilson could make his season debut. Given his druthers, he might prefer to wait. George Fait, his bodyguard at left OT, has become the third tackle placed on injured reserve. The starter stands to be third-stringer Conor McDermott, a career reserve. Illustrating the hole at the position: QB Joe Flacco endured four sacks last Sunday. The Steelers, though no longer a powerhouse, saw their last loss ATS at home come five games ago. They should profit from extra time off after a defeat last Thursday to Cleveland that was closer than the final score suggests.
