This is one of those games that could swing in either direction, but there is too much value here with the Chargers getting a field goal amid the Bengals being over-inflated after their blowout wins over the last two weeks. This is not the same Los Angeles team that struggled in close games last season, and Cincinnati has proven to be inconsistent when tested by high-powered offenses. With homefield not being much of an advantage this season, I like the Chargers to cover the field goal and perhaps win outright, so consider a bit of a moneyline sprinkle.
The Bengals are rolling but the Chargers should be extremely competitive here. Cincinnati center Trey Hopkins and right tackle Riley Reiff are both gametime decisions due to ankle injuries. That could impact not only Joe Mixon's production, but the Bengals' ability to block Joey Bosa. This game sets up well for Austin Ekeler, as Cincy struggles to defend pass-catching RBs. Moreover, I like the way the Chargers have responded to each of their losses. They're 3-1 SU and averaging 30.5 points in those spots. Grab the field goal.
I think the Chargers' loss last week at Denver is one of the reasons why this line is +3, but L.A. is not as bad as its looked last week. The Chargers still have one of the best offenses in the NFL. These are two pretty even teams, so I'll take the points with L.A.
This game has the potential to be a dream scenario for Cincinnati's offensive play-calling. Joe Burrow is good enough to win a game with his arm. Joe Mixon the same on the ground. When both are working together to compliment each other? Good luck. Los Angeles boasts one of the worst rush defenses in the NFL and the Bengals will use that in full to soften up the secondary for Burrow to attack...until they adjust and the ball goes right back to Mixon. Back and forth, back and forth. If Cincinnati starts early and jumps up on the Chargers look out, could be a double-digit home win.
The Chargers can be frustrating, but this is a case where last week's results are having too much of an impact on the line. Cincinnati trounced Pittsburgh while the Chargers were beaten by the Broncos. I don't think the Bengals offense will have the same success against this Chargers defense, and their defense will have to stop a QB capable of throwing further than 10 yards this week.
