Literally the only thing giving me pause about laying the points with the Chiefs is the travel. In every other facet, laying a couple marks over a touchdown against a Tyrod Taylor-led Chargers team is a no-brainer. Kansas City knows it needs to win this game and will have a couple extra days of rest with Baltimore ahead next week. We saw how San Diego played against Cincinnati; what the hell is it going to do against Kansas City?
I'm a little surprised this line isn't Chiefs -10 because 76 percent of the wagers are on Kansas City. The Chiefs come off a big Thursday Night Football win over Houston, a game much closer than the final score indicated. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have a target on their back, just like every Super Bowl winner for the past 50-plus years. One of my biggest reasons here is that the Chargers have the better defense. Finally, the Chiefs play the Ravens next Monday Night.
Just close your eyes and pick the Chiefs, no matter who or where they are playing. Until further notice, they deserve the role of significant favorite against anyone other than the Ravens. It is almost unfair that, having been featured in the NFL opener, they got three extra days to prepare. Worse for Los Angeles, QB Tyrod Taylor injured his ribs in the final practice and could be restricted. Pass rushing is the Chargers’ strength, but they could be neutered against Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs have gone 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 games and this week’s spread is only 3-points higher than last year’s meeting in the LA area. Last week the Chargers and Chiefs each had almost identical box scores, but the Chiefs were able to put up 34 points while the Chargers had only 16 points at Cincinnati. I get the new stadium thing for the Chargers but it won’t make them any better. I'm on the Chiefs, because all they do is cover.
