The Eagles have struggles to get traction all years, and now are down to their last gasp hope for making a run in the NFC East and a potential playoff berth. They also are on sale in this spread, with a full point of movement from the opening line as the short-handed Redskins are getting the bulk of the attention. Philadelphia's comeback win last week against New York mirrored the resolve it showed last year, and I like the Eagles to get the best of Redskins veteran backup QB Colt McCoy and beat this number.
This is an absolute must-win game for the Eagles, and though Washington enters off a bye week, it is severely limited as a team and has Colt McCoy behind center, who will not take advantage of Philadelphia's depleted secondary the way Alex Smith would in a similar situation. Worse for Washington is the front of Philadelphia's defense, which should be able to contain Adrian Peterson, who has slowed down a bit after a hot start to the season. The Eagles are getting a couple pieces on offense back, too. When you add in the hot home crowd in a primetime spot -- plus a full point of value with the line dropping and both the six and the seven, I'll take Philly.
The Eagles have only won one game by seven points or more this year: a 38-14 pasting of the Giants in Week 6. Their secondary is in tatters due to injury and their offense is having trouble finding consistency. Enter the Redskins, who will have had a mini-bye by Monday after playing last Thursday, allowing Colt McCoy to get the reps he didn't in practice on the short week against the Cowboys. Washington still played well in that game and nearly covered as seven-point 'dogs in Dallas against a team that just proved it's far better than these Eagles. That means this line makes zero sense.
The Eagles have yet to win two games in a row. Washington comes in with extra rest and has played well on the road, going 3-2. The Redskins remain tied for first place, giving them all the motivation they need. Colt McCoy will make fewer mistakes in his second start than he did on Thanksgiving. Grab the points.
