This is an absurdly low total for an NFL game in 2018, but it's one that makes sense with how bad these two offenses -- particular that of the Bills -- have been. But the Jets are getting an upgrade at quarterback in Josh McCown, so I don't think they'll look nearly as bad as they did against the Dolphins. The Bills should give him short fields off turnovers or maybe even points on a Jets defensive touchdown, and that'll help us get Over the number.
Josh McCown is going to start this game for the Jets, and right at this moment, he's a far better option than Sam Darnold. Did you realize he completed 67 percent of his passes last year with 18 TDs and only nine picks? Did you know he rushed for five TDs? Why wasn't this a bigger deal? Then you look on the other side and see the Bills will either have to start Josh Allen at far less than 100 percent, or rush another recent signing onto the field in Matt Barkley, or go back to the Nathan Peterman Experience. The Jets aren't a good team, but with McCown they should win this one with ease.
Normally, the underdog is the wise play with a rock-bottom total. But it is abnormal that an injury to a starting QB might benefit a team. Slumping rookie QB Sam Darnold (foot) could use a hiatus, and veteran Josh McCown can jump-start the sleepy offense. McCown was highly efficient last season, with 18 touchdown passes and nine interceptions. Darnold has more picks than TDs. In the Bills’ corner remains QB Nathan Peterman, who is way out of his league -- and belongs in another league, north of the border.
