Line jumped up to a touchdown as I expected. Ultimately, I am siding with the better team, better quarterback, better coach, better playmakers and better defense against a team that has not proven it is capable of winning a game against an opponent like this. The Rams are the best team in the NFL and should be able to prove as much Sunday afternoon in a tough Mile High environment. It is a lot of points to give up on the road, but I truly believe L.A. is that superior. My numbers tell me they will win by six, but I'm willing to risk the extra half point.
The Denver Broncos are coming off one of the worst road defeats of the season last week against the Jets. Flat offensively and no answer for the Jets ground attack are recipes for disaster against the potent Rams. In the last two weeks the Broncos have surrendered over 350 yards on the ground. Yet there is value on them similar to when they faced the undefeated Chiefs at home. The Rams defense has not been the same. Expect the Broncos to ride their tailbacks and fortune on defense to ride this cover out.
The Broncos are a different team at home. As bad as they looked last week, this number is too high. The Rams are undefeated but they give up 6.0 yards per play, which ranks 22nd. Look for Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas to have big games and keep Denver close. Grab the touchdown.
No doubt, Denver reeked in a one-sided loss Sunday to the Jets, but cut the Broncos some slack. They played at home on Monday night, then across the country six days later. They are 2-1 outright in their ballpark, the lone setback happening to unbeaten Kansas City. L.A.’s high-powered offense will be crippled if WRs Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp do not exit concussion protocol. Then there is the weather forecast: freezing temperatures with snow flurries. Hardly ideal for the visitors from sun-splashed Southern California.
Denver's defense is good, but it will only be able to do so much to slow down the Rams offense. Factor in the coaching mismatch between Sean McVay and the frustratingly conservative Vance Joseph, and it's hard to go any other way.
The Broncos are a weird team to figure out on a weekly basis. One week, they look dominant on defense; the next week, they can't stop a nosebleed. What has been consistent, though, is the Rams' ability to score points. Don't let the closeness of the Seahawks game fool you, it's expected versus a division opponent you play twice a year. That's not the case here against Denver. Plus, coverage questions are not what you want when facing an offense like Los Angeles. Lay the points with the Rams.
