Wish I had gotten this in sooner, but with Washington's inactives out and the team as a whole playing on short rest, there is a decisive advantage for Dallas from a personnel standpoint on Sunday. The weather also means that Ezekiel Elliott could have himself a day. Would not be surprised to see Alfred Morris get more involved than he has been, either.
The underdog usually fares well in this rivalry, and getting a full field goal, I'll jump on the Redskins. Though Washington will field a makeshift O-line, Josh Norman's return is a huge boost.
This series has seen the underdog go 29-9 ATS in the last 38 meetings, with Washington going 15-6 ATS in the past 21. But the trend I like the most is the road team going 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings. I made the Cowboys -1, but I'm good with laying the slightly higher number in this spot. Cowboys get the win in a high-scoring game.
The Redskins, on a 15-6-1 ATS roll in this series, normally give Dallas fits. Too many factors suggest that the trend will come to a grinding halt. The Cowboys are road warriors, having gone 19-8 straight-up dating to the 2013 season. They convert at a high rate in the red zone and figure to capitalize on Washington’s defensive soft spot inside the 20. The primary reason for Dallas’ success near the goal line is RB Ezekiel Elliott, who plays every game as if it’s his last. That might be the case for awhile, with his on/off suspension possibly back on again next week. On offense, the Skins are coming off of a Monday game with four ailing linemen, two of whom might be shelved Sunday. This is a recipe for a decisive Dallas win.
The Cowboys offense is starting to look like the juggernaut we saw last season. And it’s not because they put up 40 against the 49ers, but because everything is starting to click for them. The Redskins have the pieces to make this a game, but I can’t trust Kirk Cousins to do what’s necessary to sustain drives when his team needs it most. Lay the points.
