Denver's defensive stopper, Gary Harris, remains questionable because of a hip injury. His addition to the lineup would come just in time for a Nuggets team desperate to slow down the hot-shooting Jazz. Even without Harris, the Nuggets should have increased intensity on the defensive end as they try to avoid elimination in the first-round series. The teams are now 4-4 in their season series after Denver went 3-0 in the regular season. In what was expected to be perhaps the closest first-round matchup, look for an inspired Nuggets club to extend the series.
The Nuggets have their backs to the wall down 3-1. I guess the Jazz can continue to shoot 52 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3-point land, but that it is highly unlikely given their season shooting averages of 47 percent overall and 38 percent on threes. The pace has been so slow with just 94, 86, 91 and 91 possession per team in the first four contests. Take the Under.
On Tuesday, the Utah Jazz have a chance to close out the Denver Nuggets in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series. Strong perimeter production has boosted the Jazz to high-scoring performances. In Game 4 Jordan Clarkson, Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley scored 101 of the team's 129 points (78 percent). Expect a letdown from at least one of the three as the Nuggets' balanced attack finally overrides the Jazz.
Many say the Jazz can't continue to shoot this well, but if Denver keeps playing defense like it has, Utah can in fact keep it up. The Nuggets sorely miss Gary Harris and Will Barton. Harris (hip) is questionable for Game 5, but even if he plays he won't be 100 percent. The Nuggets played with supreme effort in Game 4 and it still wasn't enough versus Utah's offensive juggernaut. Lay the small number as the Jazz closes it out.
This series largely has become the Donovan Mitchell vs. Jamal Murray show. Mitchell had had two 50-point games and is averaging 39.5 points to propel Utah to a 3-1 lead, while Murray had a 50-point game himself in Sunday's 129-127 loss. The winning team has scored at least 124 points in each game. The model shows 72 percent of simulations going Over the Game 5 total.
