The old zig-zag theory is getting a ton of use Thursday, as steam behind Portland has caused this spread drop 1.5 points from an opener of Golden State -8. Sure, the Blazers are likely to give an improved performance, but we saw in Game 1 was simply a sing of things to come. with Kevin Durant sidelined, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson can actively hunt more shots, and Curry is eager to silence his postseason critics. Portland will likely find a way to win a home game in this series, but the Blazers are severely outmatched and the Warriors will cover Game 2 on Thursday night.
Game 1 failing Under the number was a result of tired legs from the Trail Blazers and a late-game drought. CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard both have to respond after a poor series opener. Furthermore, expect Steph Curry and Klay Thompson to keep the Warriors' energy and pace at a high level. Grab the Over in Game 2.
Adjustments will need to be made quickly by the Trail Blazers after ineffective offense and lackluster ball-screen defense in Game 1. Expect an increase in both areas, and for the Blazers to respond ATS. Golden State’s weakness remains with its role players and this should be an opportune time for Portland's second unit to shine.
This is a good spot for the Blazers to bounce back after running out of gas in the fourth quarter of Game 1. The Warriors played their best possible game, shooting better than 50 percent from the field and 3-point land. The Blazers played their absolute worst, shooting 36 percent. Also, 21 Portland turnovers didn't help. I can't imagine a worse stat line worse for the Blazers than Game 1. Take the points with Portland in Game 2.
The Blazers' backcourt is going to play better in Game 2, and Portland will not simply let Stephen Curry shoot uncontested treys like in Game 1. But the Blazers' defensive problems aren't going away. And the Warriors' bench will continue to be more productive than most expected. Lay it.
The Warriors couldn’t have looked much more impressive while winning Game 1 by 22 points despite playing without Kevin Durant (calf). Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson scored a combined 62 points while Draymond Green provided another excellent all-around performance up front. The Blazers might be able to make things more competitive when this series shifts to Portland for Game 3, but I’ll take the Warriors to win and cover for Game 2.
