The 76ers couldn't be more embarrassed than being outscored in every quarter in Game 1. They shot under 40 percent and Toronto shot over 50 percent but with all of that being said the Raptors won by just 13 points. J.J. Redick led the Sixers with 17 points but all five starters did score in double figures. I expect Joel Embiid to come out with a vengenance and play a dominating game. I do have Toronto rated 2 1/2 points higher than Philadelphia so I do believe they will pull this one out late.
The Raptors are on their game right now and it started to take shape four weeks ago following a two-game losing streak at home. They've gone 12-2 since, covering 10 of their last 13 where the spread only mattered once. This is supposed to be the spot Philly bounces back after a loss, but the spread isn't decreased from the last game. The Raptors have gone 4-1 SU and ATS against Philly this season. Raptors get the cover.
The Raptors sure looked impressive during their 13-point win in Game 1. They defeated the Sixers by double digits in both games that they played against them at home during the regular season as well. Tack on Joel Embiid battling a stomach illness and I’ll take the Raptors to cover again Monday in Game 2.
What we saw in Game 1 of this series wasn't a fluke or an outlier. The Raptors have played the Sixers five times now, and they're 4-1 in those games with the four wins coming by an average of 13.25 points. The lone loss was a 25-point loss in Philly, but Kawhi Leonard didn't play in that game. When Kawhi plays, Philly just can't hang with Toronto.
