The Eastern Conference’s first round was a quick flash for both the 76ers and Toronto Raptors. Both teams adjusted to game one losses to cruise past their opponents. Extra rest should alleviate concerns for the 76ers in Joel Embiid Saturday, however the Raptors are a team that finally has depth solidified to over power the Sixers. Look for Game 1 to side on the Raptors side ATS.
Both these teams lost Game 1 in their previous series and then stormed back to win the next four and close out the series. The problem with Philly here is that the 76ers don't win at Toronto, and they rarely cover against them anywhere, going 4-13 ATS in their last 17 meetings. The Raptors are on a 9-3 ATS run, and that's the side I'm rolling with in Game 1.
We saw plenty of road teams pull off upsets in Game 1 during the first round, which makes this line a little tricky. However, after the Raptors lost the first game of their series at home against the Magic, look for them to try and avoid that early hole Saturday. The two times they played the Sixers in Toronto during the regular season, they won by margins of 11 and 17 points. I’ll take them to cover.
The Raptors already were an excellent defensive team entering the postseason. But they’ve improved in the playoffs, allowing 11.0 fewer points per 100 possessions than they did in the regular season. My simulations predict that 215 points will be scored and that the Under cashes 68 percent of the time. Take the Under.
Even though the 76ers lost three of four against the Raptors, they did not have a key piece in any of those games: Tobias Harris. He gives Philadelphia another perimeter threat to go along with Ben Simmons and can limit the impact Kawhi Leonard has on the defensive end. My simulations have Toronto winning by five. Take the 76ers to cover.
