White Sox vs. Twins Monday MLB injury report, odds: Luis Robert will be activated off the injured list for Chicago

The 2020 AL Rookie of the Year runner-up, Luis Robert, will return to the White Sox lineup on Monday after a long injury absence.

The Chicago White Sox already essentially have the AL Central Division wrapped up with the biggest lead in the majors at 10.5 games – they are mammoth -7000 favorites at Caesars Sportsbook to win it for the first time since 2008 – and are about to get that much better with the return Monday from a long stint on the injured list of electric five-tool outfielder Luis Robert, the 2020 AL Rookie of the Year runner-up. The Sox are heavy favorites for Monday's game at Minnesota.

Robert tore his right hip flexor in the first inning of a game against Cleveland on May 2 while running to first base. He was originally given a timetable of 12-16 weeks. If my math is right, Monday would mark about 14 weeks. He was hitting .316 with a homer, eight RBIs, four steals and a .822 OPS in 25 games when he went down. Robert is also a stellar defensive center fielder, winning the Gold Glove last year. He probably would have won AL Rookie of the Year if not for a bit of a fade at the plate in September. Seattle outfielder Kyle Lewis took home the award.

Chicago recently got back another stud young outfielder from his own long injury stint in Eloy Jimenez. The Pale Hose will finally be whole once catcher Yasmani Grandal returns from the injured list. He's pretty close.

That's going to be a tough team to beat in the playoffs with a terrific rotation and spectacular bullpen following the trade for Cubs All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel. Caesars, though, lists Houston as the +225 pennant favorite with the Sox at +280.

The White Sox have dominated the Twins this season, going 12-4 against them and outscoring them by a whopping 109-65 margin. Chicago already has clinched the season series for the first time since 2016. Lucas Giolito (8-8, 3.98) will take the hill Monday. He has been a bit inconsistent this year but ranks among the AL leaders in strikeouts per nine innings (10.12), strikeouts (145), WHIP (1.16) and opponents' batting average (.229).

The right-hander is 6-7 with a 4.73 ERA in 15 career starts vs. Minnesota but 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA in two starts this season. No current Twins player is hitting better than .276 off him – Max Kepler is right on that average, going 8-for-29 career off Giolito with three homers. Miguel Sano is just 5-for-27 with 11 strikeouts.

The Twins will go with Beau Burrows. This will be the 24-year-old's 11th career appearance in the majors but first start. He has an 8.59 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in 7.1 innings this year. No White Sox batter has more than one official at-bat off Burrows, who probably only goes a few innings and then hands it off to Charlie Barnes (0-2, 6.23).
