Caesar’s. Sometimes you have to roll with the chalk. We get a rematch of last week’s matchup where Jacob DeGrom took a no-hitter into the eighth inning. Overall, DeGrom has been dominant, pitching to a 1.41 ERA in June. He’ll be opposed by Brandon Youn who has been hit hard in each of his three outings in the big leagues.
We faded the O's and Brandon Young in this same spot against Jacob deGrom last week and I'll go back to the well here. Young was touched up for four runs in that start while deGrom was able to hold down the O's through seven shutout innings, and I'm truthfully not sure much changes here. deGrom continues to look dominant and mentioned how he feels his mechanics are back to old, providing more comfortability of late on the mound. These teams played into extras last night and the bullpens are taxed, so I would not be surprised if the O's push Young deeper into the game out of necessity, which may not bode well for their chances to hold any kind of lead.
Both bullpens were taxed in Baltimore's 11-inning win last night, but it appears the Rangers came out of it better. For example, can't imagine at least O's closer Felix Bautista or setup man Keegan Akin are available tonight. And I tend to think the pen will be needed plenty behind struggling Brandon Young (0-2, 7.11 ERA). The Rangers' Jacob deGrom, meanwhile, looks very healthy as he had a 1.41 ERA in June and zero home runs allowed in five starts. He blanked the Orioles over seven last Wednesday. Listed pitchers for sure. At this point, though, I may as well just consult a Ouija board because little is working.
