The Yankees offense has stagnated of late, but they had a ton of chances last night and simply could not break through when it mattered. But, Cody Bellinger had the night off, and runs would have started flowing if one or two balls fell in New York's favor. Eflin has allowed a .305 average and 10 home runs in just 31 innings to lefties, so I'm keying in on lefties like Bellinger, Chisholm, and Wells today. He may not allow a ton of fly balls, but in Yankee Stadium with this weather, his high HR/FB rate should cause issues. The last two starts in Yankee Stadium, Eflin has finished with five or less innings pitched, so I'll fade him once again.
Was thinking of taking the rest of the weekend off because I am slumping. But this happens; to my recollection, there are about three stretches in a given MLB season that last a few weeks where there are bonkers results -- we are definitely in that mix currently. Win here and I'm out. Quick aside, I could not respect Shohei Ohtani more for waving off his bench last night. Hard not to like that guy Dodgers fan or not. The Orioles are playing better, but Zach Eflin has a 5.18 road ERA and a decent number of Yankees have good splits off him, although Aaron Judge is not one. I like that NYY blew a late lead (what I'm talking about) and lost last night.
Yes the Yankees are a bit of a tough sell at the moment after losing seven of eight, and in each of those losses being held to three runs or fewer. Yet also note the recent excellence of starter Clarke Schmidt, who hasn't been getting rewarded enough because the offense is providing such limited run support, but he hasn't allowed a run in three of his last four starts. This looks a spot where the Yanks might bust out Saturday afternoon vs. Birds starter Zack Eflin, who was crushed in his last outing on Monday, allowing 7 runs and 12 hits in just 5 Innings of work in a loss to the Rays.
