Apologies for the late post. It's hard to back Miles Mikolas after he was obliterated last time out in Colorado, but it's the right move Sunday. That one outing boosted his ERA from below 3.00 to 3.50. The Cardinals are hosting the Brewers and facing lefty Aaron Ashby, who's 2-10 with a 4.32 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. St. Louis ranks third in the majors in OPS versus southpaws (.785). Lay the price with the Redbirds.
Not gonna bet Vikings-Raiders preseason (just can't form an opinion on any exhibition game; I do root for a huge year for Derek Carr as a friend plopped down some $ for him as MVP at a great value price of +3000) so we'll do one MLB today. Actually have shed the Sunday Curse a bit lately, which means I just awoke the kraken (Clash of the Titans remake simply didn't do the first one justice). The Cards' Miles Mikolas was awful last time out but that was in Colorado and he has been excellent at home with a 2.48 ERA. Milwaukee's Aaron Ashby is 0-3 since the break and averaging only five innings per start. The Brewers used all their high-leverage relievers on Saturday (not saying they can't pitch here but it may be a factor) and the Cards didn't have to because Adam Wainwright went nine.
The Cardinals are ranked No. 3 in the majors in OPS (.785) against left-handed starters. Milwaukee's Aaron Ashby hasn't pitched in eight days, while St. Louis' Miles Mikolas is coming off the worst performance of his career at Colorado. The Brewers have a date with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday. Take the Cardinals at home in this one.
Miles Mikolas is coming off a tough outing but that was in Colorado. He has pitched quality starts in two of the three starts against the Brewers this season. Aaron Ashby is 1-5 with a 4.45 ERA in his last seven starts and he struggled in his only start against the Cardinals earlier this season. The Cardinals are 7-1 at home since the All-Star break and they are the second-best team in the league in wOBA since the ASB against lefties. I like the Cardinals to win this series at home.
