On consecutive days, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Rangers by one run. Texas did not go down without a fight as it had multiple big innings to climb back out of deficits. On Wednesday, expect the Rangers to finally get the upper hand as Orioles pitcher Spenser Watkins has struggled at home with a 5.51 ERA. Take the Rangers to finish their nine-game road trip with a win.
Rangers starter Glenn Otto has a 5.63 ERA, mainly because of his lack of command. Otto has walked 14 batters in his last 17 innings and has a double-digit barrel rate. Oriole starter Spencer Watkins sports a 4.61 ERA but an xFIP of 5.53, and walks 3.73 batters per 9 innings while striking out just 5.05. Watkins is coming off two of his best starts of the season and is due for a poor outing. Over the last six weeks, the Orioles have been above average at home against right-handers and the Rangers have a 107 wRC+ against righties. The first two games of the series went flying Over and it should happen again today.
The Orioles are better than their record at this point and they're much better than the lingering stigma from their past several seasons. They are 24-20 since a six-game losing streak in mid-May and have won seven of their last 10 games at home. Winning two straight walk-offs in this series should illustrate their tenacity. Both starting pitchers are just as capable of throwing well or falling apart, so I'm grabbing the team at home instead of the one playing it's ninth game of a nine-game road trip.
