The Rockies won on the run line in consecutive nights against the Dodgers and on the money line Friday. Those close results have placed value against their All-Star pitcher in German Marquez as they continue their road trip against the Angels. Throughout his career, Marquez has been a streaky pitcher. In his last start he allowed seven hits, his highest in six starts. Capitalize against him for a second consecutive start post All-Star break.
The main storyline here is that the Rockies are only 10-36 on the road this season and have to face Angels All-Star RHP Shohei Ohtani. Colorado dropped two of three at Dodger Stadium over the weekend, while the Angels have won three of their last four. Ohtani recorded eight strikeouts while scattering three hits over six scoreless innings at Oakland in his last outing. Take the Angels to win.
Angel Stadium is quietly one of the better hitting parks in all of baseball, as the Over is a profitable 31-15-1 there this year. Colorado RHP German Marquez has been consistent but struggled the last time he pitched in a plus hitting environment that wasn't his home field. In a game at Great American Ball Park in June, he surrendered eight earned runs over five innings. I see a lot of similarities between these rosters, and the Angels have the DH as well. I think it's a rougher outing for Marquez and the bullpens will bring us home to land at eight or more runs. On the other side, I think the Rockies are getting a little too much disrespect with this total after they kept pace with the Dodgers all weekend.
It's Shohei Ohtani on the mound for the Angels, and he has pitched to a 1.87 ERA in 43.1 innings at home this year compared to a 5.16 ERA in 29.2 road innings. Colorado is of course horrible on the road. German Marquez (8-7, 3.50) is a solid pitcher but worse both on the road and in night games. The Halos are 7-1 in their past eight at home vs. teams with a losing record.
