John Gant, who is 2-2 with a 2.16 ERA this season, has worked at least five innings and allowed three runs or fewer in each of his last four starts. He does have some trouble with walks, but so does New York's Taijuan Walker, who is 1-1 with a 3.0 ERA. He has walked 12 batters in his last 15 innings, and his one road start was the worst of his season. The Cardinals have won seven of their last 10 games and are much better at home. The wrong team is favored on Thursday.

I believe the wrong team is favored here (might not be the case by first pitch) so will happily take the Cardinals at -170 on the runline. New York is without two injured regulars in third baseman JD Davis and outfielder Brandon Nimmo Starting pitcher Taijuan Walker (1-1, 3.00) can be dominant at times but also very wild. The Cards' John Gant (2-2, 2.16) is one of the more underrated pitchers in the NL. New York is 3-8 in its past 11 vs. a right-handed starter.
