Suddenly, the formerly red-hot Diamondbacks have skidded into a four-game losing streak. Manufacturing runs has been the main issue in their current series against the Nationals. Through three games, they've scored just three runs. On Sunday, they'll face former D'back Jeremy Hellickson, a pitcher they should be able to get back on track against. Grab Washington.
I'm a big fan of Diamondbacks pitcher Zack Godley. The 28-year-old righty has one of the best curveballs in baseball to go with an above average cutter. Godley has been unlucky with batters hitting .328 putting balls in play. Last year, batters hit just .211 and this year, they are hitting mid-.260s but their OPS is close to last year's just above .700. The Nationals' Jeremy Hellickson has been a below average pitcher his entire career but has been very lucky this season. The only category he has control of is his control, which is the best of his career. BABip is very low, LOB percentage is high and HRs-to-flyballs is very low. These three categories will turn around, and Hellickson will end up with an ERA around 4.00. My numbers have Godley as a -160 favorite.
