The Cleveland Guardians beat the Chicago White Sox 4-1 in Game 1 of a day-night doubleheader Tuesday – the Sox are now 0-5 at Progressive Field this year and have been outscored 32-10. Chicago played the opener with arguably its best player, outfielder Luis Robert, on the bench. He is expected back in the lineup for Game 2, but All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson will likely sit. Cleveland slugger Josh Naylor sat the opener but also should play tonight. The Sox are currently -170 favorites at Caesars Sportsbook behind All-Star snub Dylan Cease.

Robert is hitting .283 and leads the team with 10 homers (tied with Jose Abreu), 46 RBI and 11 steals (tied with Anderson). The Guardians are set to start lefty Konnor Pilkington (1-1, 4.08 ERA) in the nightcap, and Robert is slashing .357/.393/.554 (20-for- 56) with three homers vs. left-handers.

Anderson (.317, 11 SB) is recently back from a hamstring issue so while the Sox need all the wins they can get right now, Tony La Russa almost surely will not let his leadoff hitter play 18 innings in one day. Leury Garcia, who also didn't start Game 1, likely would lead off and play short. After losing the first game, the Sox fell to 132-98 since 2020 when Anderson is in the starting lineup. They're 37-40 when he is not. Chicago is 26-3 in that stretch when he homers.

Cleveland's Naylor (.279, 11 HRs, 43 RBIs) has missed some time recently with a lower back issue so it's not a surprise he isn't playing both ends of the twin-bill. In his past 14 games, Naylor is batting .306 with four homers and eight RBIs.

Chicago's Cease has better numbers then some AL All-Star pitching selections. He's 7-4 with a 2.45 ERA and among the MLB leaders with 133 strikeouts. Cease owns a 0.60 ERA, .173 opponents' batting average and 62 strikeouts (12.31 per 9.0 IP) in his last eight starts.

Cease has struck out eight or more hitters 12 times (most in MLB), nine-plus six times (T5) and 10-plus four times (T3) in 2022. There are no strikeout props set for Cease yet, but it likely will be O/U 7.5, perhaps 8.5. He has faced the Guardians once this year, when he allowed four runs over 5.1 innings in a loss on April 21 in Cleveland.
