The men's basketball tournament continues at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. On Wednesday morning, Team USA looks to redeem itself after an ugly opening loss to France. The Americans take on Iran in group play, with a desperate need for a win. Team USA is led by Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard and a bevy of NBA standouts.

Tip-off is set for Wednesday at 12:40 a.m. ET. William Hill Sportsbook has Team USA listed as a 40-point favorite. The Over-Under, or total number of points scored, is set at 167.

Before making any 2020 Olympics bets, be sure to see what SportsLine's Olympics expert, Mike Tierney, has to say.

A national sportswriter whose work appears in The New York Times and Los Angeles Times, Tierney has covered nine Olympic Games in person. For Rio in 2016, Tierney profited big-time. He told readers to bet Over on Team USA's gold medal count (41.5) and Over on Team USA's overall medal count (102.5). The result? 46 golds, 121 medals and two easy cashes.

And for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Tierney hit two of his three predictions: Germany (+200) to win the most gold medals and the United States winning Under 10.5 gold medals (+110).

Now, with the Tokyo Summer Olympics underway, Tierney has analyzed every angle of Wednesday's USA-Iran men's basketball matchup to help bettors find the best betting options. Tierney is leaning on the under for the point total.

He's also identified an x-factor that has him jumping all over one side of the spread. You ABSOLUTELY need to see what he has to say before locking in your picks.

Who wins Wednesday's USA vs. Iran matchup? And what X-factor makes one side of the spread a MUST-BACK? Join SportsLine right now to find out which team in the USA vs. Iran game you should back against the spread, all from the expert who has crushed his Olympic picks!

    Tierney's pick (posted Monday):

    Iran +42.5

What do we know about Iran? What does it matter? Yes, the Iranians entered the Olympics with astronomical odds to win gold after going winless in the 2019 FIBA World Championships. However, they did manage an impressive eight-point loss in that tournament to Spain, which might be considered the favorite in Tokyo after Team USA's not-so-stunning loss to France in its opener. Clearly, two of the Americans who played in the exhausting NBA Finals have not caught their breath. Devin Booker logged 18 minutes against the French and shot 1-for-6. Khris Middleton went scoreless after just 5 1/2 minutes of action. Only the tireless Jrue Holiday resembled his NBA self with 18 points in nearly 28 minutes. The U.S. should win safely, but a cover of this massive number appears beyond reach regardless of the opponent.
