Tyreek Hill inks three-year contract extension with Kansas City Chiefs

Prior to the season opener, the Chiefs made a substantial investment in Hill.

In mid-July, the NFL world surprised when word broke that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill would avoid suspension amid troubling allegations. Less than two months later, the Chiefs moved swiftly to place their confidence in Hill's contributions on the field, with Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reporting news of a three-year contract extension for the offensive superstar.

Hill's new deal is reportedly worth up to $54 million with $35 million guaranteed and it includes a $5.8 million bonus to sign on the dotted line. While that kind of deal falls short of what is widely expected for a player like Falcons star Julio Jones, it is a big-time investment in Hill, particularly with his off-field issues.

"We're pleased we were able to reach an agreement with Tyreek to keep him in a Chiefs uniform for the foreseeable future," Chiefs general manager Brett Veach told ESPN. "He understands our expectations of him as a member of this team and community. This extension is contingent upon the conditions Tyreek agreed to adhere to upon his return to the team in July."

"Tyreek is an elite player in this league and has played a major role in our team's success," Veach continued. "And we're pleased that he'll continue to make an impact for us."

Hill, who is only 25 years old, caught 87 passes for 1,479 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, helping to make Kansas City's offense utterly dynamic with Patrick Mahomes at the helm. His ability to stretch defenses with blazing speed is well-documented and, given his age, there is every reason to expect that Hill can continue on his growing trajectory as a weapon in the passing game.

The Chiefs enter Week 1 as 3.5-point favorites over the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Kansas City is the betting favorite (at 5-1 odds) to win the upcoming Super Bowl.
