Today's picks: Why the Braves will beat the Mets, plus more MLB and soccer best bets for Tuesday, Aug. 16

Coach starts things off with the SportsLine play of the day: the Rockies (+1.5) to cover against the Cardinals (7:45 p.m. ET). "Last week [the Rockies] took two out of three from the Cardinals," he says. "They scored 29 runs in those three games."

McClure has one play from that same game: Cardinals Team Total to go Over 4.5. "The Cardinals are the best team in Major League Baseball against lefthanded pitching," he says.

Coach then gives a soccer pick, courtesy of Jon (Buckets) Eimer: Both Teams To Score (-150) in the PSV-Rangers match (3 p.m. ET). 

Cimini closes out the show with two MLB plays. The first is the Braves (-140) to beat the Mets (7:20 p.m. ET). "You have to believe [Taijuan Walker's] disastrous outing against the Braves on Aug. 5 has to still be in the back of his mind," he says.

His final plays is the White Sox (+105) to beat Justin Verlander and the Astros (8:10 p.m. ET). "[On June 18 against the White Sox], he lasted just 3.2 innings," Cimini says of Verlander. "He gave up nine hits."
