The National League East could be the most interesting division race in the 2020 Major League Baseball season – assuming there is one, and regardless of how many games are played due to the coronavirus pandemic. It's fairly easy to imagine the two-time defending East champion Atlanta Braves, reigning World Series champion Washington Nationals, New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies all winning it. Only the Miami Marlins have no shot.

William Hill sportsbook (New Jersey version) runs daily "odds boosts" promotions. There is one today on the possibility of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa being selected No. 2 in this month's NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins.

There's also one boosting the Phillies odds' to win the NL East from +300 to +375, a price that will revert to +300 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Thus, it makes financial sense to put money down on Philly before that deadline if any bettors like the team to win the East.

The Phillies were the NL East betting favorites entering last season following the additions of Bryce Harper and others, but they finished a disappointing 81-81, just one win better than the 2018 team that wasn't nearly as talented, and fourth in the division – 16 games behind the Braves.

Philadelphia's biggest offseason move was hiring former mega-successful Yankees manger Joe Girardi to replace the fired Gabe Kapler. Girardi has a career regular-season record of 988-754 with the Marlins and Yankees, a winning percentage of .554 that is second-best among active managers behind the Dodgers' Dave Roberts (.605). New York made the playoffs in six of Girardi's 10 seasons.

The Phillies added a very solid starting pitcher in former Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler, who likely slots in at No. 2 behind Aaron Nola. Ex-Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius also was signed and will push incumbent shortstop Jean Segura to second base.

With that odds boost, Philadelphia is the fourth-favorite at William Hill to win the East behind the Braves (+200), Nationals (+240) and Mets (+300), even though New York has lost No. 2 starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard to season-ending Tommy John surgery.
