Super Bowl 57 MVP Chiefs vs. Eagles odds: Kenneth Gainwell, Philadelphia backup running back, taking early action at sportsbook

Expect to see a lot of unusual early betting action on Super Bowl 57 between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles simply as bettors need something (beside the Pro Bowl games) to fill the two-week space before the big game and are looking for longshot value. That brings us to Eagles backup running back Kenneth Gainwell who has taken some early heavy action at Caesars Sportsbook to win Super Bowl MVP.

Gainwell was +25000 to win MVP and is now down to +10000 in large part due to a Tennessee bettor putting $350 on Gainwell at +22500 for a potential win of $78,750. Believe it or not, no running back has won Super Bowl MVP since the Denver Broncos' Terrell Davis did so at Super Bowl 32. A tailback has only won it seven times overall.

Miles Sanders (+2500) is the clear-cut No. 1 running back on the Eagles, and Gainwell is at best the No. 3 running option behind Sanders and quarterback Jalen Hurts (+125 favorite). During the regular season, Gainwell only got 53 carries – compared to 259 for Sanders, 165 for Hurts and 54 for Boston Scott – and totaled 240 yards and four scores. He also had 23 catches for 169 yards.

It might surprise you to know that Gainwell leads the Eagles with 160 rushing yards this postseason. He's logged a touchdown on 25 carries along with three catches for 35 yards. Sanders has 132 yards and two scores on 28 carries. Sanders also wasn't needed heavily in the second half against the 49ers in the NFC title game or against the Giants in the Divisional Round because both games were routs.

That the Super Bowl MVP is an offensive player is -2000 and a defensive player at +700 .That it's a quarterback is -400 and any other position is +250.

Gainwell is also set at +2200 as the first touchdown scorer in the Super Bowl and +2500 for an anytime TD. No individual over/under yardage or carries props are active yet. Gainwell could be in line for a much bigger role on the Eagles next season because Sanders is a free agent and had a career year. According to Spotrac, Sanders has a market value of $7.2 million and that may be too rich for Philadelphia, as it has a few other key players set to cash in.
