Super Bowl 56 Rams vs. Bengals props, odds, trends: Bettors expecting sack for Aaron Donald, interceptions for Jalen Ramsey, Logan Wilson
Bettors at Caesars Sportsbook expect big plays from three key defenders in Super Bowl 56.
The old cliché is that defense wins championships, and while NFL rules are incredibly beneficial to the offenses these days it should be noted that none of the past three Super Bowl losers scored more than 20 points. Bettors at Caesars Sportsbook for Sunday's Super Bowl 56 are high on Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald having at least one sack and Los Angeles' Jalen Ramsey and Cincinnati's Logan Wilson to each have an interception. The Rams are -4 at Caesars -- that book had been one of very few with Los Angeles at -3.5 until this morning.
Donald is arguably the best defensive player of his generation, a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and first-ballot Hall of Famer someday. Recently, we wrote about how bettors are very bullish on Donald to win Super Bowl MVP even though just one defensive tackle has ever done so. Donald is down to +1800 for MVP, ahead of such high-profile offensive players as Joe Mixon (+2500), Cam Akers (+3000) and Tee Higgins (+4000).
At Caesars, Donald had been -190 to have at least one sack (not half-sack) but with 92 percent of money and 87 percent of tickets on yes, that price is now -210 with no at +170. Â Donald has 14.0 sacks this season including playoffs.
The total sacks in the game is set at Over/Under 5, with the Over at -140 and the Under at +110. The Over has accounted for 98 percent of the money and 96 percent of tickets. No quarterback in the NFL was sacked more this regular season than Cincinnati's Joe Burrow, and he also went down a record nine times in the Divisional Round vs. Tennessee.
"I think the Bengals' offensive line issues have been one of the major storylines, and that's put more of a focus on sacks for this Super Bowl than in recent years," said Adam Pullen, Assistant Director of Trading at Caesars Sportsbook. "If you've been betting Overs on sacks in these playoffs, you've been up pretty good. The Bengals' performance against the Titans is still in people's minds. This sack prop is a high number, but it's a deserving number given what the Rams have on that side of the ball. I would expect more handle on their sack props than in years past."
There's also cross-sport prop available with total sacks in the game at -0.5 (-115) vs. number of shots on goal by Capitals star Alex Ovechkin at +0.5 (-115) in Sunday's home game vs. Ottawa. Ovechkin leads the NHL with 215 shots, which is an average of about 4.6 per game in his 47 played.
Both quarterbacks in Super Bowl 56 were interception-prone this season as the Rams' Matthew Stafford tied for the NFL lead with 17 and has added one in the playoffs. Cincinnati's Joe Burrow had 14 during the season and two in these playoffs.
The Rams are likely to stick All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey on Bengals star rookie WR Ja'Marr Chase, and Ramsey is +550 to have a pick and -800 for no. Ramsey had four in the regular season and none in the playoffs as teams generally don't throw his way. Yes that Ramsey will have a pick is taking 97 percent of tickets on this prop and 96 percent of money.
It's not often that a linebacker leads a team in picks, but Cincinnati's Logan Wilson did with four in the regular season and he has added another in the playoffs. That Wilson will have one Sunday is -1100 for no and +700 for yes, and 91 percent of money and 75 percent of tickets are on yes.
There is a cross-sport prop with total interceptions in the game at -120 vs. number of Barcelona goals scored in La Liga play Sunday (-110) vs. Espanyol. Barca has 36 goals in 22 La Liga games.Â
