Patriots NFL odds: Will New England's record streak of 17 straight seasons of double-digit wins continue?

New England has won at least 10 regular-season games for an NFL-record 17 straight seasons. SportsLine oddsmakers see that as likely to end.

There are numerous statistics to back up the claim that Tom Brady is greatest quarterback in NFL history, but perhaps the most astounding – six Super Bowl rings aside – is that the Patriots entered 2020 with 17 straight seasons of at least 10 regular-season victories, a league record. Of course, Brady is with Tampa Bay now, and SportsLine NFL oddsmakers have released a prop on whether the Pats' run reaches 18. The answer is likely no.

It should be noted that Brady wasn't a part of one of those 10-win seasons. In 2008, Brady went down with a season-ending Week 1 knee injury vs. Kansas City. Matt Cassel took over and led New England to an 11-5 record, although it missed the playoffs after losing out on an AFC East tiebreaker with Miami. That's the last time the Pats didn't play extra football.

Brady also missed the first four games of the 2016 season serving his "Deflategate" suspension but New England went 3-1 without him – Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett at quarterback – and would finish 14-2. It also should be noted the Pats went 9-7 in 2002, Brady's second year as the starter. The streak began in 2003.

Twice in this run the Pats landed right on 10 wins: 2005 (lost in the Divisional Round of the playoffs) and 2009 (lost in Wild-Card Round).

New England enters Week 7 at 2-3, the first time the Pats are under .500 this late into the season (through at least five games) since 2002 when they started 3-4 and finished 9-7. Needless to say, the Pats would have to finish the season at least 8-3 to continue this 10-win streak.

They are 2-point home favorites on Sunday vs. the San Francisco 49ers and Garoppolo. New England has lost back-to-back games and looks to avoid losing three in a row for the first time since 2002.

Barring an injury to Cam Newton, etc., here's out the rest of the Pats' schedule likely would shake out from an odds perspective:

Favored – Week 9 at Jets, Week 11 at Texans, Week 12 vs. Cardinals, Week 13 at Chargers, Week 15 at Dolphins, Week 17 vs. Jets.

Underdog – Week 8 at Bills, Week 10 vs. Ravens, Week 14 at Rams, Week 16 vs. Bills.

It's very possible a few of those games could switch categories. Let's assume, though, the Patriots win this Sunday and sweep the Jets. That's five victories. Are there really five more on the schedule? Doubtful.
