Patrick Mahomes ankle injury odds fallout: Eagles new favorites to win Super Bowl 57, but Chiefs favored to beat Philadelphia on exacta futures

The Philadelphia Eagles were +500 to win Super Bowl 57 at DraftKings entering Divisional Round weekend, but are now +250 slight favorites following their blowout win over the New York Giants. The fact that Patrick Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain for the previously favored Kansas City Chiefs in their win over Jacksonville also contributed to the line movement. Kansas City is now priced +260. The Eagles and Chiefs have the longest title odds by any Super Bowl favorites entering conference championship weekend in at least the last 15 postseasons.

Because the Cincinnati Bengals upset the Bills in Buffalo on Sunday, the Chiefs will host the AFC Championship Game for a record fifth straight year. There's no doubt that Mahomes will play through the injury, but his mobility will almost certainly be limited. An MRI on Sunday showed the sprain but no other damage. Mahomes also injured his ankle in Week 1 of the 2019 season, also against Jacksonville, and didn't miss any time. He threw seven touchdowns and averaged 409 passing yards while leading the Chiefs to victories in the next two games.

Kansas City opened immediately at -3 for Sunday's game against Cincinnati but is down to -1, and some books even have it as a pick'em. Joe Burrow is 3-0 for his career against Mahomes, including a 27-24 overtime victory in last year's AFC title game and a win earlier this season in Cincinnati by the exact same score. That Kansas City wins this time by an exact score of 27-24 is +4500 and that Cincinnati does is +5000.

Bengals-Chiefs will mark the seventh instance of two teams meeting for the conference title in consecutive seasons and the first since Ravens-Patriots in 2011-12. Those teams split, with both games played at New England. To win the AFC, Kansas City is -120 and Cincinnati -110. Burrow is 3-0 on the road in his postseason career; Cincinnati was 0-7 on the road in its postseason history without Burrow.

Philadelphia's Jalen Hurts didn't seem at all hindered by his recent shoulder injury when he led a blowout of the Giants, with the 31-point victory tying the largest win in franchise playoff history. The Eagles rushed for 268 yards, their second-most in a playoff game in franchise history.

San Francisco won its 12th straight game Sunday, a 19-12 victory over Dallas. It's the team's longest win streak since 1984. The Niners are in the conference title game for the second straight year and 18th time overall, the most in the NFL. The Eagles and 49ers didn't play this season. Philly is currently a 2.5-point home favorite. To win the NFC, Philadelphia is -145 and San Francisco +120.

The favored exact Super Bowl result is Chiefs over Eagles at +450, followed by Eagles over Bengals at +500 and Eagles over Chiefs at +550. Clearly, oddsmakers believe that if Mahomes is healthy enough to beat Cincinnati, he'll be just fine two weeks later against the NFC champion. Mahomes is still the +330 Super Bowl MVP favorite.
