Packers rule out Davante Adams, Darnell Savage for Monday night's game

Green Bay will be without its top receiver and its playmaking rookie safety on Monday night against the Lions.

If the Green Bay Packers beat the Detroit Lions on Monday night, the Packers will have to do so without two of their key players. In Saturday's injury report, Green Bay ruled out receiver Davante Adams (turf toe) and safety Darnell Savage (ankle) for Monday's game. A third player, backup tight end Robert Tonyan (hip), also will be unavailable.

The losses of Adams and Savage are particularly significant for the Packers. Adams, who also missed last week's victory over the Cowboys because of the bad right toe, leads the team in receptions (25) and receiving yards (378). He had a career-high 180 receiving yards in the Week 4 game against Philadelphia before he was forced to the sideline with the turf toe.

On Thursday Adams, who has yet to even practice since the injury, said he did not have a timetable for a return.

"We're just really trying to pace it at this point," Adams said. "I can't really tell you when I'm going to play. I know it doesn't feel how I want it to feel at the moment, but we definitely have time."

Savage, a rookie from Maryland whom the Packers selected in the first round in April's NFL Draft, has helped solidify a Green Bay defense this season. The dynamic safety ranks sixth on the team in tackles (18). He also has an interception and a forced fumble. Third-year defensive back Will Redmond figures to play a significant role against Detroit in place of Savage.

With Savage being forced out of the Dallas game and other Packers defensive backs ailing, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott shredded the Green Bay defense for 463 passing yards and two touchdowns.

On Monday the Packers, sans Savage, will face Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, who ranks eighth in the NFL in quarterback rating (102.6).

Green Bay opened as a 5.5-point favorite over Detroit, but over the week the line dropped to -4.
