NFL Week 3: New England Patriots tackle Isaiah Wynn facing 'week-to-week' toe injury

The Patriots received mixed news on Tuesday morning.

The New England Patriots appear to be a juggernaut, winning their first two games of the 2019 NFL season by a combined 76-3 margin over the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins. However, not even the Patriots are immune to injury concerns and, following an MRI on Monday, New England will be without starting left tackle Isaiah Wynn, at least for a while.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network brings word that Wynn is "week-to-week" with a turf toe injury, though it is crucial to note that the ailment is not expected to sideline Wynn for the entire 2019 campaign. This is not the first significant injury of Wynn's young NFL career, with the 2018 first-round pick missing his entire rookie season with a torn Achilles. There were signs of life for the former Georgia standout in the early going but, for now, the Patriots will be relying on their depth to make up for his absence.

New England takes on the New York Jets in Week 3 and, even without Wynn, the expectation will be a comfortable victory for Tom Brady and company. As of Tuesday morning, the Patriots are 22.5-point favorites against their AFC East rivals and, while some of that lofty spread takes New York's quarterback situation into account (third-string QB Luke Falk is expected to start), it further illustrates the perceived gap between the Patriots and everyone else.

At present, Bill Belichick's team is the Super Bowl favorite at 3-1 odds and, barring a complete and utter stunner against the Jets, the Patriots will start the campaign with a 3-0 record. It will be interesting to see how just how long Wynn is on the shelf, however, because New England isn't quite at full strength without him.
