NFL Week 2: Miami Dolphins in turmoil with New England Patriots on the horizon

The Dolphins lost by 49 points and things got worse from there.

The New England Patriots were lights-out on Sunday evening, blitzing the Pittsburgh Steelers in blowout fashion before Antonio Brown even arrived. While that level of dominance was at least slightly surprising, it wasn't a shock to see New England favored by double figures in Week 2, particularly when taking their upcoming opponent into account. However, the Miami Dolphins are actually in worse shape than expected after Week 1 and it wasn't only a 59-10 loss that sent the organization into turmoil.

Mike Florio of NBC Sports cites a league source in reporting that "multiple Dolphins players contacted their agents after Sunday's season-opening blowout loss and directed them to attempt to engineer trades elsewhere." While it isn't unprecedented for a team to lose by 49 points, the reporting centers on an internal belief that Miami is not "serious about competing and winning" and, as a result, the rest of the season could be quite an adventure for the Dolphins.

It is important to note that the Dolphins have refuted this claim, though it is entirely reasonable to point out that they would refuse this claim, whether true or not. As for the immediate future, Miami must now travel to Foxboro to take on the juggernaut Patriots and, in the early going, the Dolphins are 16-point underdogs against Tom Brady and company

Crazy things have happened in the NFL and, given the nature of a small sample, it is possible (or even likely) that the Dolphins simply aren't as bad as they appeared in the opener and the Patriots aren't quite as fantastic as they looked on Sunday evening. Still, Miami will be fighting an uphill battle and, on the heels of a bombshell-level story, the Dolphins have the gift of the most treacherous possible road trip in the NFL
