NFL Trade Deadline Everson Griffen odds: Seahawks favored to land defensive end from Cowboys if dealt

Dallas reportedly is shopping former Pro Bowl defensive end Everson Griffen. Where might he land?

Are the Dallas Cowboys ready to waive the white flag on this hugely disappointing season? That would be rather unlike owner/general manager Jerry Jones, but Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network was the first to report this week that the Cowboys will listen to offers on defensive end Everson Griffen, who signed a one-year, $6 million free-agent deal with Dallas this summer. SportsLine has released odds on where Griffen may land if dealt by the Nov. 3 Trade Deadline.

The 32-year-old Griffen spent 10 seasons in Minnesota and was a four-time Pro Bowler. He's not quite at that level any longer but has put up decent numbers in Big D with 20 tackles, 2.5 sacks, a quarterback pressure rate of 7.6 percent on pass-rushing snaps and a forced fumble. That entire Dallas defense has underperformed this year in allowing an NFL-worst 34.7 points.

Yet the Cowboys could find themselves back in first place Sunday night with a win at Philadelphia, which opened as a 7.5-point favorite on the William Hill NFL odds. Perhaps Jones waits to see what happens in that game before starting to sell off parts.

Any team that acquires Griffin would owe him about $3 million the rest of this season. Every team could use pass-rush help, but a few clubs especially stand out.

Seattle was a reported finalist for Griffen this summer before he chose Dallas, and that Seahawks defense is awful. The unit is allowing a league-high 479.2 yards per game (by far last in the NFL) and has just nine sacks. In last Sunday night's 37-34 overtime loss in Arizona, Cards QB Kyler Murray was pressured on just 1 of 48 dropbacks (2.1% pressure rate), the lowest pressure rate against any quarterback in a game this season with at least 14 pass attempts.

"Are we interested in guys we were interested in before? Yeah," Seattle coach Pete Carroll told reporters Monday.

Two other NFC West teams could use Griffen too. San Francisco lost defensive linemen Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas to season-ending injuries and has 12 sacks. The Niners already have been aggressive in trading for Jets linebacker Jordan Willis, but he won't help the pass rush. Arizona lost stud pass-rusher Chandler Jones for the season, and Griffen would probably love a deal to the desert as he's from Avondale, Ariz., a suburb of Phoenix.

In the AFC, the Tennessee Titans have only seven sacks despite the offseason addition of Jadeveon Clowney. The Las Vegas Raiders also have just seven.

Cleveland reportedly was a suitor for Griffen this summer, too. He would make an excellent bookend to Myles Garrett. Of course, Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski knows Griffen well as Stefanski was Minnesota's offensive coordinator last year and an assistant on the team for several years before that.

The Vikings always wanted Griffen back, but they likely wouldn't have interest at this point with a 1-5 record and already having traded away defensive end Yannick Ngakoue.
