Kansas State vs. TCU Pac-12 Championship game odds, trends: Max Duggan needs miracle to steal Heisman Trophy

TCU quarterback Max Duggan likely needs a miracle to steal the 2022 Heisman Trophy.

I'd like to tell you who the biggest Heisman Trophy betting favorite was entering conference championship weekend who didn't end up winning college football's biggest individual award, but sadly O can't. I am however confident in saying that if USC quarterback Caleb Williams, -2800 at Caesars Sportsbook, isn't the winner on Dec. 10 it's the biggest Heisman stunner in history. Is there a way for TCU quarterback Max Duggan (+2000) to steal it in Saturday's Big 12 title game vs. Kansas State?

Duggan does catch one break in that voters will be able to see Williams in the spotlight on Friday when the Trojans face Utah in the Pac-12 title game. That's the only Power 5 championship not played on a Saturday. So if USC is thrashed and Williams really struggles, perhaps the door opens ever so slightly.

The senior Duggan has completed 66.6% of his passes for 3,070 yards, 29 touchdowns and just three picks while rushing for 294 yards and five scores. His completion percentage ranks second for a season at TCU, while the touchdown passes and his 34 touchdowns responsible for are third. Duggan is fourth in the nation in passing efficiency (171.3 rating), tied for second among Power 5 QBs with 16 touchdown passes of at least 20 yards. He has accounted for three or more touchdowns in eight starts.

That's the thing: Duggan hasn't started all 12 games for the unbeaten Horned Frogs. Chandler Morris got the call in the season opener vs. Colorado, but Morris left late in the third quarter after a defender landed on his left leg and Duggan hasn't given the job back. If the Frogs destroy K-State and Duggan throws for six TDs… maybe there's a chance.

TCU is seeking its first Big 12 Championship Game win and first outright Big 12 title. It is looking to become the first Big 12 team in College Football Playoff era to go 13-0 and become the second Big 12 team to make the CFP (Oklahoma has already done so).

Perhaps consider betting Under the total of 62 on Saturday. There wasn't a Big 12 Championship Game from 2011-16 but since 2017, all five have gone Under the total. The average closing total was 63.0 points and the average combined points scored is 52.4.
