Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has tested positive for the coronavirus but reports that he is asymptomatic and feeling well. He will now need to have multiple negative tests over a 72-hour time frame before he can return to work. The 52-year-old is currently in self-quarantine at his home.

Running backs coach/assistant head coach Duce Staley has taken over the day-to-day operations, but Pederson is involved with the club virtually. Staley has been a part of the Eagles' staff since 2011, and the assistant head coach since 2018.

Because quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Press Taylor was in close contact with Pederson, he also was sent home from the team facility. Taylor has tested negative but must follow protocols before returning. Pederson could return to the Eagles as early as Friday if he passes all the protocols. Philly starts on-field full-team practices Aug. 12.

Pederson is the second NFL head coach known to have tested positive for the virus. In March, New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton revealed that he had tested positive but is fine now. The only Eagles player known to have tested positive thus far is Pro Bowl right tackle Lane Johnson.

Last week, Johnson, Jordan Mailata and Nathan Gerry were all placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. That's for players who either test positive or who have been exposed to someone who has. Receiver Marquise Goodwin has opted out of the season.

The Eagles open Sept. 13 at Washington as 6-point favorites on the NFL odds.
