Chiefs' Damien Williams favored as first touchdown scorer in Super Bowl LIV

The betting favorite to score the first touchdown in Super Bowl LIV is Kansas City running back Damien Williams.

Tailback Damien Williams did not have a particularly good regular season for the Kansas City Chiefs. But "Playoff Damien" is a different guy altogether, and Williams is the +600 favorite on the FanDuel NFL odds to score the first touchdown of Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2 against the San Francisco 49ers.

At one point this season, Williams was basically a footnote on the Kansas City roster. He had fallen way behind LeSean McCoy on the depth chart (partly due to injury) and carried the ball just once in a Week 6 loss to the Houston Texans. Williams finished with only 498 yards and five touchdowns on 111 carries. But something seems to click for the former Miami Dolphin in the postseason. He had two rushing scores and two receiving in the playoffs following the 2018 season.

In this season's Divisional Round win over Houston, Williams had two rushing scores and caught a touchdown pass. In the AFC Championship Game win over Tennessee, he added another rushing score. Williams is now clearly the featured back as McCoy didn't even play vs. the Titans due to illness and Darwin Thompson had just one carry. Williams had 17.

San Francisco running back Raheem Mostert is the +650 second-favorite on this NFL prop. With Tevin Coleman injured, Mostert was a monster in the NFC title game win over Green Bay with 220 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Mostert became the first player with four rushing touchdowns in a playoff game since LeGarrette Blount for the Patriots in 2013 Divisional Round against the Colts. Mostert was the first player in history with four rushing scores in a conference championship game. The Niners were so dominant on the ground that Jimmy Garoppolo attempted only eight passes.

Coleman was carted off Sunday with a shoulder injury and it's not yet clear if he will play in the Super Bowl. Official injury reports aren't due until next week. Kyle Shanahan has not ruled Coleman out yet, but an MRI on Monday should tell more. Coleman is +1200 on this prop.

Kansas City's Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce (both +750) and San Francisco's George Kittle (+900) round out the favorites. Could the first score be by a defense? The 49ers' is +2000 and Chiefs' +2300.
