Astros vs. Phillies World Series Game 3 odds, trends: Bettors split on moneyline, leaning Over total

After Game 3 of the World Series between the Astros and Phillies on Monday was postponed by rain – shame, as it likely would have been a zoo at Citizens Bank Park on Halloween – there appear to be no weather concerns for tonight. While Houston will stick with original starting pitcher Lance McCullers, Philadelphia is changing to lefty Ranger Suarez. Bettors are rather mixed on the moneyline at BetMGM. As of this writing, 38% of bets at the site are on Houston at -125, but those bets account for 53% of the money. On the runline, 43% of bets and 51% of the money are on Philadelphia. The total opened at 7.5, but has risen to 8 with 64% of bets and 59% of the money on the Over. The Phillies are 21-9 all-time in the postseason at Citizens Bank Park (best home record for any ballpark to have hosted at least 20 playoff games) and 5-0 this year.

Houston probably doesn't mind the change from Noah Syndergaard considering the Astros ranked No. 2 in the majors during the season in OPS (.783) vs. southpaws. The 27-year-old Suarez was 10-7 with a 3.65 ERA during the season but only 4-4 with a 4.27 ERA at home. He has pitched four times in the postseason, throwing 9.2 innings with two earned runs and six hits allowed. He allowed one hit in two thirds of an inning in Game 1. Syndergaard could be used out of the bullpen tonight.

McCullers was 4-2 with a 2.27 ERA in eight regular-season starts and makes his third start of the 2022 playoffs, having pitched in clinching games in the ALDS and the ALCS. He has allowed three earned runs and 10 hits over 11 innings.

With Game 3 pushed back a day, the remainder of the World Series schedule also was pushed back by a day, including the travel day back to Houston now Friday for a potential Game 6 on Saturday. If the series does go six games, Nov. 5 would be the latest in the calendar a World Series game has ever been played.

This marks the 62nd time in 118 World Series that two clubs have been tied 1-1. The Game 3 winner in those instances has gone on to win the World Series 67.2% of the time (41 of 61).
