Finding the perfect additions to your Fantasy baseball team via the waiver wire is the key to winning in any Fantasy league, but if it were easy, anyone could do it. And if you're searching for a hitter to round out your Fantasy baseball lineup, you absolutely need to see what SportsLine's Fantasy expert Alex Chamberlain has to say.
Chamberlain is a 5-time Fantasy Sports Writers Association award finalist and was recognized as 2015's Newcomer of the Year and 2018's Fantasy Baseball Writer of the Year. He competes in Tout Wars and contributes (other) work online at RotoGraphs and in print in Lindy's Sports annual Fantasy Baseball magazines. Previous bylines include Baseball Prospectus and Rotoballer. If there's anybody who knows what it takes to win a league, it's him.
Now, he's done an in-depth analysis of the top hitters who are widely available entering Week 16. One we'll give away: Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak, who's available in over 50 percent of CBS Sports Leagues.
"Even as his contact quality weakens -- his season xwOBA dropped from .435 in May to .397 in June -- Smoak remains a very underrated hitter," Chamberlain said. "In fact, he's sporting by far the best plate discipline of his career without sacrificing his power-oriented launch angle. Sometimes, you don't need the fancy Statcast metrics to validate a buy-low declaration. Smoak generated a .290 BABIP the past two years before sinking to a .228 BABIP in 2019. Smoak becomes a classic logical buy-low candidate."
Chamberlain has also identified which hitters you should target on waivers if you need a jolt for your squad, including another undervalued player who you need to buy low on right now. Anyone who adds this player could hit it BIG.
