Legendary handicapper Hammerin' Hank Goldberg enjoyed a 17-year ESPN run in which he had only two losing seasons picking NFL games. Last year, Hammer competed against 10 top handicappers in the Las Vegas Review-Journal's NFL Challenge and beat them all, finishing 50-29-6 (63.2 percent) against the spread.
In last week's Hall of Fame Game, Hammer told SportsLine readers to grab Chicago +2.5. The result? The Bears covered, nearly winning outright in a 17-16 loss.
Now, with a full preseason slate set to kick off Thursday with 12 games, Hammer tapped into the inside sources he's spent years cultivating. Those conversations prompted him to bet four games.
We can tell you Hammer loves Carolina +2.5 at Buffalo. "The Panthers want to get off to a good start, they historically play well in the preseason and Buffalo has got lots of problems -- they don't have a quarterback," Goldberg said. "Ron Rivera has got a new offense with Norv Turner that they want to get used to, and he's got a lot of depth."
Hammer also got down on three other contests, including Friday's Lions-Raiders standalone game marking Jon Gruden's return ... Join SportsLine now to see Hammerin' Hank Goldberg's four Week 1 Preseason Best Bets, all from the handicapping legend coming off another wildly profitable NFL season!
