Here's What Happens to Jamaal Charles Now That He's Released

Here are the most likely landing places for Jamaal Charles, who was released Tuesday by K.C.

The Chiefs on Tuesday released the former focal point of their offense, Jamal Charles.

Their backfield now includes Charcandrick West, Spencer Ware, and CJ Spiller.

CBS SPORTS: CHIEFS SIGN CJ SPILLER

Charles, who has over 1,300 career carries, was scheduled to count $6 million against the salary cap. He turned 30 in December and has played just eight games over the last two seasons due to a litany of injuries.

According to odds from BookMaker.eu, here are the teams favored to land Charles:

GREEN BAY PACKERS: 5/2

The Packers' run game is in disarray. Ty Montgomery, Eddie Lacy, James Starks, Randall Cobb, Aaron Ripkowski, and a cavalcade of others took handoffs last season. The Packers had a 100-yard rusher just twice. Bringing in a veteran like Charles makes sense, especially because of his receiving ability.

OAKLAND RAIDERS: 9/2

The Raiders are favored to move on from RB Latavius Murray. Charles could stay in the AFC West and play his former team twice a season.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS: 5/1

The Vikings' future at RB is very unclear. Adrian Peterson has been the anchor for the last decade, but isn't willing to take the steep pay cut Minnesota will demand. Going from Peterson to Charles seems like a lateral move.

NEW YORK GIANTS: 25/2

The Giants released RB Rashad Jennings and have little depth behind second-year player Paul Perkins. Charles could mentor Perkins.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS: 20/1

The Patriots turned castoff LeGarrette Blount into the league leader in touchdowns last season. With Blount's future up in the air, Charles could grab his first Super Bowl ring.

CLEVELAND BROWNS: 25/1

Browns RB Isaiah Crowell is a restricted free agent and the team has little else to speak of besides Duke Johnson. It seems likely Crowell will be back with the Browns next season, but Charles would serve as valuable depth: 25/1 odds seem appropriate.

RETIRED: 75/1

The odds that Charles will be sitting back on his couch sipping a Mai Tai are 75/1. This seems like a value play. Charles has been in the league since 2008 and his body is clearly deteriorating. Hanging it up idoesn't seem too far-fetched.
