Willie Taggart Favored to Replace Mark Helfrich at Oregon

South Florida head coach Willie Taggart is favored to replace Mark Helfrich at Oregon. Chip Kelly and Lane Kiffin are also in the hunt.

South Florida head coach Willie Taggart is the favorite to replace Mark Helfrich at Oregon, according to BookMaker.eu. Helfrich was fired last week after a 4-8 season.

Taggart is +250 to become Oregon's next head coach (bet $100 to win $250), the best odds of any single candidate.

Taggart has steadily improved at South Florida since his first season in 2013. He's gone 2-10, 4-8, 8-5, and 10-2 at the helm of the Bulls, who will play South Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl on December 29.

Boise State head coach Bryan Harsin is +350 to become Oregon's head coach (bet $100 to win $350). Harsin is 31-8 in three seasons at Boise State, which includes two bowl wins (Fiesta Bowl, Poinsettia Bowl).

According to CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd, Oregon reportedly interviewed Taggart and Harsin over the weekend.

Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin is +1500 (bet $100 to win $1500) to become the new Ducks head coach. Kiffin was formerly the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers, Oakland Raiders (NFL), and USC Trojans. He's been under the guidance of Nick Saban since 2014.

Former Oregon head coach Chip Kelly, who is in his first year with the NFL's 49ers, is +2200 to return to Eugene. The 49ers have lost 11 straight. Kelly was fired from the Philadelphia Eagles last December.

Other candidates for the Oregon head coaching gig, according to BookMaker, are Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano (+750) and Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen (+2000).

The field (all other candidates) is offered at a price of -175, making this option the mathematical favorite.
