One of the best fields of the PGA Tour season will be on hand when the 2021 Genesis Invitational tees off Thursday at Riviera Country Club. World No. 1 Dustin Johnson returns after pulling out of last week's event at Pebble Beach, and last week's winner Daniel Berger is among the many notable names in the field.
Johnson is the 6-1 favorite in the latest 2021 Genesis Invitational odds at William Hill Sportsbook, with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm listed as the 12-1 co-second favorites. Among the other contenders in the 2021 Genesis Invitational field are Justin Thomas (14-1), Bryson DeChambau (16-1), Brooks Koepka (22-1) and Berger (30-1).
Before setting your Fantasy golf lineups or betting the 2021 Genesis Invitational, you MUST see data scientist Rick Gehman's power rankings.
With his expansive database of golf statistics, course data and betting odds, Gehman creates advanced models and back-tests them constantly. These models have produced 12 outright winners in the past year -- including 30-1 Webb Simpson at the 2020 RBC Heritage.
Last week at Pebble Beach, three of Gehman's top four picks finished in the top five, including winner Daniel Berger. The 27-year-old came in off a missed cut in Phoenix, but Gehman still ranked him fourth, and Berger drained a 31-foot eagle putt on the final hole to break a tie with Maverick McNealy and win by two.
And at last month's Farmers Insurance Open, the leaderboard looked like a who's who of Gehman's rankings, with five of the golf expert's top nine picks finishing tied for seventh or better. He had winner Patrick Reed ranked No. 9 before his victory, while three others tied for the runner-up spot at 9 under par!
Gehman has been on fire all year, with two of the top four finishers at The American Express ranked in his top seven. And the previous week at the Sony Open at Waialae, the top three in his rankings all finished in the top seven! Anyone who has followed his advice has cashed in!
Now, Gehman has ranked his top 30 players for the 2021 Genesis Invitational, and he is backing Johnson all the way. The reigning FedEx Cup champion backed out of Pebble Beach to savor his victory in Saudi Arabia and is now rested from the long trip. Johnson has had no trouble with the tough Riviera layout, posting a victory in 2017 and top-10s in six of his last seven trips. Johnson has been at the top of his game, and there's no reason to think he won't be at the top of the leaderboard in Pacific Palisades!
On the other hand, Gehman is fading McIlroy, who has struggled for well over a year to string four strong rounds together. McIlroy is the co-second favorite, but he hasn't won a tour event since November 2019, and he hasn't finished higher than T-13 in a non-major this season. McIlroy's name and talent have oddsmakers on board, but he he doesn't come close to Gehman's top five!
Instead, Gehman is expecting a lot more from a player who comes into the event at 70-1! This young golfer is in the midst of a rough stretch, but his driver could be a critical weapon for him at Riviera. This player can flip the switch and turn things around in a hurry, and you'll want to be backing him when he does! You ABSOLUTELY need to see who it is before betting this tournament or entering any Fantasy golf lineups.
